Governor Jan Brewer and Mayor Phil Gordon, along with officials from RED Development and Hunt Construction Group, recently celebrated a  construction milestone for downtown Phoenix, at the “Topping Out” of the Phase I office tower in the new CityScape project at Central Avenue and Washington Street.   Construction of the tower has reached its peak of 368 feet.

The 27-story, 620,000-square-foot office tower will be a key component in the first phase of the three-block, 1.8 million-square-foot project known as CityScape.  The project will include a mix of office, hotel, restaurant, retail and residential space, ultimately covering 7 acres in the heart of downtown Phoenix and involving more than $900 million in private investment – the largest ever in downtown Phoenix.  The first phase opens in Spring of 2010.

Mayor Phil Gordon, praised the progress that has been made in challenging economic times.

"To have a quality amenity like this in the heart of downtown with the new retail, grocery and pharmacy would make any Mayor smile,” said Gordon.  “But to see it take shape and rise out of the ground during these challenging economic times, is particularly gratifying and is a testimony to the efforts of this team.”
