Anyone who drives the Dolphin Expressway on a daily basis can see the new Marlins stadium beginning to cast a shadow over the area. The stadium is now 25 percent complete after just 35 weeks of construction. The constant construction is needed to meet the targeted opening date for the stadium in 2012.
Hunt/Moss, A Joint Venture have been hard at work to keep the deadline on track and the project within budget. Construction workers have completed all support columns for the stadium and are now lifting the track beams in which the retractable roof will rest. In addition, the Ballparks bowl structure is now visible to all fans.
The stadium’s east side of the Promenade level is being formed. It will be the home of the main public concourse featuring concessions, retail, and a Taste of Miami zone accentuating Miami’s diverse food cuisine. Hunt Construction Group was proud to join owner University of Texas System for the UT Arlington’s long-awaited Special Events Center groundbreaking. The turning of dirt means the project has moved one step closer to reality as of Friday, March 5. During the January 26, 2010 awards luncheon at the Americas Lodging Investment Summit (ALIS), two of hospitality’s most significant deals, as well as an investment executive, were honored with prestigious ALIS awards.
The Hunt Construction Built 1,001-room Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek Resort and 498-room Waldorf=Astoria Orlando won the Development of the Year award. Developed with an approximate cost of $550 million by KUD International, LLC and Brooksville Development Corporation, the facility sets new standards in the Orlando hospitality scene.
Finalists included the 210‐room Hotel Indigo San Diego – Gaslamp Quarter – San Diego, California, developed at a hard construction cost of approximately $40 million by Phelps Development; and the 235‐room and 123 residences W Hotel – Boston, Massachusetts, developed at a cost of $235 million (includes hotel, residential, parking, land, and all associated costs) by Sawyer Enterprises. The Wichita Thunder captured three awards and placed in five overall categories in the Central Hockey League’s annual ‘Best of the Best’ poll.
The brand new INTRUST Bank Arena took home honors for ‘Best Arena’ and ‘Best Locker Rooms’. The state-of-the-art facility opened early in the new year and hosted its first Thunder game on January 23rd in front of a franchise-record crowd of 13,412.
The new arena has drawn two other crowds in excess of 9,000, leading to a meteoric rise in the CHL attendance standings. The Thunder ranked second in the league late last week after 9,074 fans watched the Thunder battle Arizona on March 1st. Continue reading
Clark/Hunt, A Joint Venture proudly celebrated the topping out of the San Antonio Military Medical Center on February 25 alongside the U.S Army Corps of Engineers. Speakers included Col. Richard Muraski with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Sid Jordan, CEO of the Northern/Southern Region of Clark Construction. Thomas White, Sr. Safety Manager with Hunt Construction Group also presented safety awards at the end of the ceremony.
In July 2008, the United States Army, Corps of Engineers chose Clark/Hunt, A Joint Venture as the Integrated Design-Bid-Builder (IDBB) for the San Antonio Military Medical Center – North. IDBB is an acquisition methodology that allows the constructor to interface with the Architect of record, The USACE, and End-User groups during the period from Design Development through 100% completion of each Work Package.
This project marks a new day in many respects for the United States military. The Clark/Hunt IDBB contract is one of the first of its kind for the Army; as well, this project will forever mark the City of San Antonio history pages, as one of the single-largest construction projects in the City’s history. This project includes nearly 700,000 square feet of new hospital space, renovation of existing medical space in excess of 280,000 square feet, a new Central Energy Plant, and a new parking structure with a total of nearly 5,000 new parking spots. Southwest Airlines joined Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter and other dignitaries February 16th at a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opening Southwest’s new home in Terminal E at PHL. Recently completed by Hunt Construction Group, the $45 million Terminal E Expansion features seven new aircraft gates, a 500-seat holding area, new restrooms, a mini-food court with new concessions, and a fantastic new piece of permanent artwork installed as part of the City’s Percent for Art Program.
“This new facility, that now allows us to operate out of one concourse, is a wonderful example of both Southwest Airlines and the City of Philadelphia working together in a public-private partnership to enhance air travel for the entire City,” stated Bob Montgomery, Southwest Airlines Vice President of Properties. “I know all of our hard-working Southwest Employees here in Philadelphia can’t wait to continue providing our legendary Customer Service from our new home in Terminal E.”
During the ceremony, Montgomery also announced a new and exciting destination for Philadelphians. Beginning June 27, 2010, the carrier is starting new service between Philadelphia and Boston Logan (BOS). Southwest will start with five daily nonstops between the two cities. Continue reading
Travelers must be loving the billion-dollar of improvements and new passenger terminal at Indianapolis International Airport.
J.D. Power and Associates announced that the Indianapolis airport ranks at the top of the list of 64 major airports in the country in a survey of passenger and visitor satisfaction during the past year.
That means that passengers think the new airport terminal had fewer lost luggage and other problems that have bedeviled other new airports.
“We found that Indianapolis ranked highest in both the small category of airports with fewer than 10 million passengers a year and also highest overall in the entire study. And that’s up from a tie for 13th in the previous study two years ago,” said Stuart Greif, vice president and general manager of global hospitality for J.D. Power.

Forest City Ratner Companies has awarded Hunt Construction Group the construction contract for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The cornerstone and the first building of the larger Atlantic Yards development, the Barclays Center will be a 675,000 SF sports and entertainment arena, featuring 18,000 seats for basketball and 19,000 seats for concerts, 104 luxury suites, public concourses on two levels, a suite level club restaurant, and an adjoining basketball practice facility. Designed by Ellerbe Becket and SHoP Architects, the Barclays Center will be constructed using a structural steel superstructure frame with structural precast seating bowl and a weathered steel rain screen facade.
The Barclays Center, which has already commenced construction, will host more than 200 events a year including professional, collegiate, and scholastic sporting events, concerts, family shows, and community activities. Upon its completion, the Barclays Center will be home to the NBA’s Nets, Brooklyn’s first major professional sports team since the 1957 departure of the Dodgers.
“Hunt is extremely proud to be a part of this historic endeavor, and is excited about serving as the design-builder,” stated Ken Johnson, Executive Vice President for Hunt.
Members of Hunt’s West Division Team in Phoenix, AZ and their family members, once again, donated their time for the Crockett Elementary School charity day. Every year for the past seven years, Hunt employees have donated their time on a Saturday to complete various projects around the Crockett Elementary School.
This year, the Hunt team took every item on the schools wish list and made it a reality. Projects completed included painting of curbs and driveways, the cafeteria stage walls and bulletin boards, teachers’ lounge and the front office and hallway. Hunt would like to give a big thanks to Mark Gong of ColorCor who took care of our painting supply needs.
Hunt held their 2nd Annual Food Drive for the community of Indianapolis during this past holiday season. Employees came together and Hunt collected seven boxes of nonperishable food items for Gleaners Food Bank.
Gleaners distributes the food they collect to more than 400 charities throughout Indianapolis and the surrounding area. Gleaners was founded in 1980 and has since grown with one mission is simple and direct: To end hunger by engaging individuals and communities to provide food for people in need.
Thanks to the efforts of Hunt employees and the thousands of others who donate to Gleaners every year, the community of Indianapolis is continuing to do its part to end hunger.
