An extensive reconfiguration and reconstruction of the access roadways at the Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Airport was necessary to complete this project. Hunt Construction Group managed two components: private vehicle access to the north and commercial vehicles at the terminal curb. The commercial roadway accommodates hotel courtesy vans, taxis, limos, and scheduled van services.
The access roadway includes a four lane urban designed access with stone and metal clad pylons placed along the roadway to support the roadway lighting and signage. The elevated roadway makes a 180-degree turn at the extreme West end to deliver traffic to the appropriate level of the Terminal. Departing passengers utilize the upper roadway while arriving passengers use the lower roadway. Exit ramps, access roads, and supporting roadways will provide access to the FAA Air Traffic Control Tower, Delta Airlines Technical Operations Center (TOC), Delta Airlines Parking Deck, Bombardier APM facility, Terminal loading dock area, Delta Flight Kitchen, Airline Air Cargo Terminal and other existing facilities currently served by Aviation Boulevard. Existing overhead utilities are relocated underground to provide a vista view of the new Terminal. New roadway construction totals asphalt and concrete areas of approximately 360,000 SF.
